Solve Challenge

There are two challenges on offer - please read up on them and decide as a team what you would like to take on.

Option 1 - Sustainable Wastewater Solutions for Healthcare Facilities

Healthcare facilities in Kampong Tralach District face severe wastewater management challenges due to inadequate septic systems. Untreated wastewater contaminates groundwater, increases disease risks, and compromises the safety of healthcare workers and patients.

Develop a climate-resilient and sustainable wastewater management solution for healthcare facilities in Kampong Tralach District.

Option 2 - Management of Sludge from Water Treatment Plants

In Cambodia, many small private water operators (PWOs) lack access to sludge treatment plants due to the high cost of existing technologies. Their primary treatment methods rely on flocculant chemicals and regular tank cleaning, while some with sufficient resources construct disposal ponds. However, maintaining these ponds requires costly excavation, and sludge drying presents safety risks.

Innovative, cost-effective solutions are needed to support small PWOs in managing sludge safely and sustainably.
