Why I'm taking the plunge
You probably didn’t know this about me, but I only learned to swim two years ago. I could stay afloat, sure, or swim a leisurely breast stroke; I could even surf! But I couldn't swim a length of a 50 metre pool.
I finally swallowed my pride and asked Joey for some swimming lessons in 2023, aged 28, and have been slowly building up my strength and confidence in the pool ever since.
This year as we’ve travelled around Australia in our van we’ve thought about water every day. Drinking, showering, cooking and toileting have all become a lot less straightforward. This has been a novelty for us, but 1 in 10 people worldwide don’t have clean water close to home. My goal is to swim 30km this November and to raise $1000 for WaterAid.
- $30 can build a simple handwashing station to help stop the spread of disease
- $50 can provide a student with clean water at school
- $150 can help to buy a rainwater tank so a family has clean water close to home
