From cake to cause. Walking the talk this October.

Water is Life. But for millions of women and children around the world, it's also a daily struggle. 

Shockingly, almost one in ten people in the world do not have clean water close to home. The simple act of accessing clean water involves walking for miles — it is primarily undertaken by women and children. This daily burden affects their health, education, and future.

Vera and I are passionate about changing this reality. Last year, with the incredible support of our friends, family, and community, we raised $387 in our “Walk for Water” fundraiser as part of the wider Grundfos Team. This year, we’re stepping up our efforts again.

Why we walk. 

Access to clean water should be a basic human right. No one should have to walk miles every day for something as essential as water, especially women and children. By joining us in this cause, you help provide safe, accessible water to those who need it most, transforming communities, empowering women, and giving children the chance to thrive.

What are we prepared go give up?

A birthday cake, for starters! With our birthdays just six days apart later this month, we usually celebrate with a giant pistachio chocolate cake that we stuff our faces with only once a year. This year, we’re donating the cost of that cake to the fundraiser. I’m also toying with the idea of giving up coffee for a month, but I will have to sleep on it before I commit! I will let you know :D

What else is happening? 

As I love walking and running, should you feel like joining me one day, just send me a text. But on October 2nd, we’re setting off on a morning group walk with my colleagues, following a route I designed last year in one of my favourite parts of the Adelaide Hills. It’s a short 4 km, a perfect opportunity to catch up & get some fresh morning air.  Last year, we had a a good time with colleagues, friends and family.

With so many fundraising efforts happening everywhere, I don’t expect everyone to share this. Just taking a moment to read my piece is support enough. I’m passionate about this cause, and if this message makes you pause and think about the importance of clean water access, then my day is already made.

This isn’t just about water, it’s about justice, community contribution, setting an example, and building a better future for all. Let’s walk together to ensure no child misses school, no woman risks her safety, and no family suffers due to a lack of clean water.
