Everyone deserves a flushing toilet!

Each day, we provide essential sanitation services to more than 1.7 million people, ensuring public health via our sewage service.

We treat all used water to a high standard, providing recycled water for a range of purposes such as supporting broad-scale horticulture, which is laying the foundations for economic growth.

In Australia, it’s easy to take something as simple as going to the toilet, for granted.

Unfortunately, 2.3 billion people worldwide are not so fortunate as they do not have access to a decent toilet. That’s one in three of the world’s population without a toilet.

Around 289,000 children under five die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. A lack of decent toilets and good hygiene keeps kids out of school, adults out of work, and traps people in poverty. Many have no choice but to face the indignity of toileting in the open, where they are exposed to disease and vulnerable to harassment, and even attack.

Five years ago in 2013, the United Nations officially recognised World Toilet Day to raise the importance of sanitation globally. Every November, WaterAid, who has reached 25.1 million people with decent toilets since 1981, encourages communities to raise funds to help address this issue. This year, we can all play our part.

This is a great opportunity to do what we can and raise money and awareness about a basic human right. We’re aiming to raise $4,263 – so we can pay for a community toilet block in a developing country that is disability-friendly and has hygiene and menstrual hygiene facilities, serving 500 people.
