Why I’m walking 83.3km in 2 days this October

This October I’m taking part in a 2 day 83.3km walk to raise awareness and funds for the 696 million people who do not have clean water close to home.

On 22–23 October, I’ll be walking 83.3 kilometres across Melbourne over two days, alongside Chris Edwards, Zoe Walsh and others from across Victoria’s water industry.

Our Ultra Walk will connect Melbourne’s four metropolitan water utilities — South East Water, Melbourne Water, Yarra Valley Water and Greater Western Water — with people from across the sector joining us for different legs of the journey. Together, we’ll be walking by water, for water, to raise funds and awareness for WaterAid. 

696 million people in the world – almost one in ten – do not have clean water close to home. Every day, women and children walk long distances to collect and carry water for their families. Girls and boys often begin collecting water as children and girls continue to collect and carry water throughout their lives. Many girls spend hours each day collecting water, which can cause them to miss time at school. And not only that, sometimes the water they are forced to collect is dirty, carrying water borne diseases and leading to sickness in their community.

This is why we need your help – we are asking you to walk for water, so that they don’t have to.

By walking, running or riding for five days, you can raise awareness and funds so people around the world can access clean water for the first time.
