Walking for Water – Because Clean Water Is a Human Right

Water is a basic human right. I know how privileged my children and I are to have constant access to clean, safe water and reliable wastewater services.

As a mother, I think of the millions of women and children who walk kilometers every day to collect water—water that is often unsafe and can carry disease. The image of mothers giving their children water that could harm them is so beyond what I can imagine, but it is real and never lost on the reality that this is for these women. And it is because of this reality that I am walking for water.

Clean water should not be a privilege reserved for those born in the right place or with the right means. It should be a right for everyone.
