WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation.

WaterAid Australia was started by the water industry in 2004 because no organisation like us existed. Since then, we have been dedicated to delivering clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to vulnerable communities in our region until we are no longer needed. We are resolutely focused on tackling these three essentials in ways that last.

The generous support received through events like the Victorian WaterAid Gala Ball has allowed us to reach over 5.7 million people in the last 20 years with out water, sanitation and hygiene programs.

We have made substantial progress, but there remains a challenging journey ahead. Meeting the ambitious goal of Sustainable Development Goal 6—ensuring universal access to safe water and sanitation by 2030—requires us to accelerate our efforts fourfold, highlighting the urgency of WaterAid Australia’s mission and the need for future support.

We are working with our supporters and partners to get clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene to these communities. It’s about more than installing taps, toilets, boreholes and wells. To make lasting change happen on a massive scale, we:

  • Convince governments to change laws;
  • Link policy makers with people on the ground;
  • Change attitudes and behaviours;
  • Pool knowledge and resources; and
  • Rally support from people and organisations around the world.

Together, we can create a world where everyone, everywhere has access to life-saving  clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.
