Walk for water week kick off with a 46.5km run

Well we are off and running. Amazing day spent running 46.5km up the Moorabool River (a special place of cultural and environmental significance and source of water for Geelong). We were lucky enough to see a platypus at the very start of the run. Thank you everyone for your amazing support and donations and a special thank you to Corrina Eccles who kept me company running an amazing 26km! Some photos from the run are below.

My fundraising challenge - run (and walk) a Marathon up the Moorabool River

The Walk/Run – 42.5km up the Moorabool

The run starts at the Meredith-Steiglitz bridge and finishes at Lal Lal Falls at the top of the Lal Lal Reservoir.

The Lal Lal reservoir holds 60 billion litres of water. This water is treated to safe, clean drinking water for supply to Geelong and Ballarat. The run up the Moorabool River to Lal Lal will pass places of cultural and environmental significance. Water flows down the river are important to maintain the health of these places.

Why I'm walking, running & riding for water this October!

Can you imagine having to walk for hours each day to collect water for your daily needs. 703 million people in the world – almost one in ten – do not have clean water close to home. For hundreds of millions of people, especially women and girls, that means long, dangerous and physically painful walks to collect water from sources that could be filthy.

WaterAid is committed to helping communities gain access to clean water sources close to home, freeing up women's time and enabling girls to spend more time going to school.

At the end of September and first week of October, I will be walking and running each day to raise awareness and funds so people around the world can access clean water for the first time.

To kick things off I will be running (and walking) a marathon up the Moorabool River on the 29th of September. The Moorabool River is a water source for the people of Geelong, a place a significant cultural significance for the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners and a home for plants and animals.

Please donate to my fundraising page to contribute to WaterAid's amazing work. For just $50, WaterAid could buy water system tools to provide a rural community with clean water.
